- Elizabeth (Betsy) Bussiere passed away at home on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the age of 89. In the days prior to her death she was lovingly surrounded by her nine children and spouses, her sister, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was greeted on the other side by her husband Bernie who had passed just 77 days days prior and patiently awaited her arrival. Betsy was born on November 8, 1931 in Avoca, PA to parents John and Elizabeth (Ryan) Williams. Like her husband, Betsy's family moved to Hartford, CT in search of employment when she was 10 years old. As fate would have it, she lived next to the Bussiere family and met Bernie, her husband of 70 years. They married at the age of 19 and started their family while living in Hartford, CT. They eventually bought their first and only home in East Hartford, CT. They raised their family of 9 children in their beautifully love-filled 3-bedroom home of 60 years. Betsy was the ultimate matriarch of the family. She was a strong woman, wife, mother, grandma/meme, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her love and connections didn't stop with her family, she welcomed everyone to the dinner table and friends were welcome to sleep over and be part of the family. She was a member of the local Women's Circle where she and other women gathered to support one another. She built a network unmatched by any! If her children did something wrong, she knew before they arrived home as her self-built community would inform her. She had uncanny intuition and much to her children and often her husband's dismay, she was truly always right!! She was ahead of her time as she also made a career in retail as she worked for Sears Roebuck and Company, retiring after 20 years. Betsy always had an idea; her mind was always busy. She knew the interests and strengths of everyone in her family and she encouraged them all to be the best they can be. There wasn't anything she wasn't capable of. She was adored and will be incredibly missed. In addition to her husband Bernie, Betsy was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth (Ryan) Williams and her siblings: Jack Williams, Bill Williams, and Bob Williams. She is survived by her two sisters Mary Bussiere and Carol Williams and nine children: Bernie and Carol Bussiere, Ann and Thom Meglin, Cathy and Tim Winn, Barbara and Don Perkins, Nancy Casey, John and Judy Bussiere, Elizabeth DaSilva, Joe and Patti Bussiere, Mary and Trevor Micoletti. In addition, Betsy's legacy lives on strong with 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and counting. A mass will be held in honor of both Betsy and Bernie on May 11th, 10 am at St Paul's Church on Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial services for both Betsy and Bernie will immediately follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in East Hartford, CT. They will be laid to rest with their son who died at birth in July 1965. Betsy's nature was to lead with a warm heart and honest work. In lieu of flowers, welcome your family's friends to your home and dinner table. Don't be shy about having them join in the preparations and clean up, make them part of the family, make them more than a guest.
